Asina had been present for births before, but perhaps it had been a long time (or maybe it was the twins curiously wiggling around inside of her), but she found herself very uncomfortable sitting in the cozy armchair next to the wailing Danalli. Oh she had seen plenty of people in pain before, both pain that she had caused and that she was trying to save a beloved from... but this was a different kind of pain. Not that it was more or less, just that it was different, and watching it chilled her in a frightful way.
It went on, and on, and on, this agony.
And then, toward what she was sure had to be the end, Danalli whimpered that she couldn't do it. If Danalli couldn't push one little beast out of her, how was Asina who was much smaller in frame supposed to push two of them out. Especially if either one of them had her mate's broad shoulders?
She gave a tight, dry swallow, her knuckles white from clutching the edges of the chair as she kept her gaze transfixed on what was happening on the bed before her.
Iera, at least, seemed perfectly calm. Her words were energetic and encouraging, her hands firm and gentle where she help onto Danalli's knees. "Atta girl, you're almost there!" She called with a broad grin. "Just a few more big ones!"
Zanen was absolutely beside himself.
Of course, he couldn't let an ounce of it show. He wasn't sure if he still had a hand, either, because he'd lost circulation in it hours ago. Still he held on. He smoothed her hair back and kissed her forehead, murmuring sweet encouragements in her ear, talking about their beautiful baby boy.
And fear struck him right through the heart when she said that she couldn't do it. She was giving up? All of this to bring their baby into the world and she was giving up? Zanen was a lover and a mate, he was a kind and gentle man when he wanted to be, but he was a demon first and foremost. A demon general, to be more specific. A fire rose and lashed out from within those violet eyes as he tightened his grip on Danalli's hand and bore that gaze right into her own. Didn't she understand how precious children were? How rare and how special? Didn't she realize that they might never get this chance again? And at this stage, if she gave up now...
A growl bubble from his throat, teeth bared unpleasantly. "Fight, my Sun," he snarled. "This is nothing to be defeated by. You can do this, and you will. Now fight!"
